Course Review
Starting from the front, we’ll cover the general ambiance and atmosphere of the course, along with some general remarks about the greens and fairways.
The first thing you’ll notice upon entering the golf course is how quiet it is. Aside from the distant sound of seagulls and wind chimes, the only noise you’re likely to hear is the rushing wind or water flowing by in a nearby wetland. The peaceful atmosphere of this course is enhanced by the gorgeous landscape and sprawling trees. These areas are surrounded by a six-foot wooden fence, keeping the wildlife at bay and giving you and your friends some privacy.
As you walk toward the back of the golf course, you’ll come across the 12th tee box. Here you’ll find the executive patio, complete with barbecue grills, picnic tables, and comfortable patio furniture. Just beyond is a swimming pool, which is surrounded by decking and boasts an outdoor shower. This is a memorable spot to take a break from playing and relax with a drink or snack. The patio area is equipped with a game console, so you and your friends can enjoy some multiplayer action while chilling with a beverage.
Even more memorable is the 18th green. Nestled in the trees and surrounded by picnic tables, umbrellas, and lounge chairs, this green is a beautiful place to wind down and catch your breath. To top it all off, the view is spectacular. You can gaze at the twinkling lights of downtown Houston or the moon rising over Clear Lake โ the perfect end to a perfect day.
Course Set Up
The Houston Golf Club operates and maintains Cypress Point Golf Club. The course itself is a full 18-hole golf course, however, the first nine holes are used for practice while the remaining nine are for playing. The practice facilities include an indoor driving range, chipping greens, and a full-length putting green. Additionally, this resort-style golf course has three sets of tee boxes, a pro-shop, and a lighted pitching area. So, it is fully equipped for both veterans and newcomers to the game.
Greens
The greens at Cypress Point are lush and beautifully manicured. The surface is quite manicured and looks like it could be a putter’s dream. The grass is cut very short, so if you’re not a fan of fast greens then this place is not for you. The greens are very receptive, so any kind of attack is fruitless as you’ll find out soon enough.
The most notable feature of the greens, apart from their flawless appearance, is the variety of trees and bushes that line the fairways. The hues of green are varied and complement each other beautifully. The foliage provides some welcome cover and helps soften the rays of the sun, thus reducing the temperature, making it more comfortable to play.
Fully Equipped
The practice facility at the golf club is quite impressive, particularly the putting green, which is 25 yards long by 15 yards wide. This is a great idea for those players who struggle with the long putts. Additionally, the chipping area has been designed for all golfers and provides a more realistic feel to the game. The pitching space has been equipped with top-of-the-line practice equipment so you can get your mock-putts in. The golf club also hosts a fully equipped fitness center with state-of-the-art machinery, a pool table, and a ping pong table.
Designed By
The golf course at Cypress Point was designed by Jack Nicklaus. The legendary golfer, who became famous for designing and playing Golden Horseshoe Golf Course in the area, lived and breathed golf, so it is only natural that he would influence the golf course that is now in his name. In 1955, at the age of 24, Nicklaus designed and built Cypress Point. The goal was to create a golf course that resembled his beloved Golden Horseshoe in Ireland, as much as possible.
Membership
As we’ve already established, Cypress Point Golf Club is a private course, however, Houston Golf Club offers membership. If you’re not familiar, Houston Golf Club is a private membership club that operates and maintains 18 golf courses, in Texas and Louisiana. The only requirements for membership are to be a citizen of the United States and to be a person of good moral character. Additionally, golfers 55 years of age or older are eligible for the Veteran’s senior membership, which also grants them access to all of Houston Golf Club’s courses, as well as discounts at local restaurants and hotels.
Food And Beverage
The golf course is open year round and is equipped with a food/beverage tent, which can be found adjacent to the snack bar located opposite the 18th green. The menu features items such as fried chicken, fish, and chips, as well as salads and sandwiches. Hot dogs, potato salad, and pasta are also available for those looking for something lighter.

Overall, we think that you’ll agree that the golf course at Cypress Point is one of the best in the area. The ambiance is quite unique, as you’ll never find yourself bored on this golf course. The greens are fabulous and play extremely fast. Additionally, the variety of foliage throughout the course provided excellent cover and scenery. Finally, the food and beverage options at the golf course are quite good, so you won’t go hungry or thirsty, as the saying goes.
