The Hamilton Farms Golf Club is one of the most prestigious private clubs in Canada, located in the Golden Horseshoe (yes, that’s its official name). The 18-hole golf course was designed by Arthur Lindbergh in 1926 and is the second-oldest golf course in Montreal. What was originally envisioned as a 9-hole course has grown over the years to its present 18-hole length.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the 18-hole course at Hamilton Farms is among the most challenging in North America. With its sprawling bent-grass fairways, undulating greens, and imposing tree-lined bunkers, it’s little wonder that golfers from around the world travel to Montreal to play the course. Tournaments have been held there nearly every year since its inception, and the club has produced many well-known professional golfers, including Canada’s own Mackenzie Hughes and Kevin Porter.

What Does The Membership Include?
The golf club membership at Hamilton Farms includes some fantastic perks. To start with, you get full access to the golf course and all of its associated facilities, including the pro shop, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness centre, and restaurants.
In addition, you’ll enjoy special social events throughout the year, from lectures and wine-tasting classes to movie nights and holiday parties. Plus, members have unlimited access to the prestigious Montreal Golf Club’s award-winning junior golf program.
If that wasn’t enough, members also get a 10% discount at all Food Network Canada restaurants and a 10% discount at Starbucks (no need to mention the coffee shop’s famous hot chocolate).
How Much Does It Cost To Play?
The cost of playing golf at Hamilton Farms varies by the day and the time of day. Monday to Thursday (not including Sunday), the golf course charges $95 for 9 holes, $125 for 18 holes, and $40 for children.
On Friday, the cost is $75 for 9 holes, $100 for 18 holes, and $35 for children. On Saturday, there’s no charge for 18 holes and $40 for 9 holes.
On Sunday, the course is closed, but you can still use the facilities, including the golf course. The pool opens at 10:00 a.m., and the tennis courts open at 11:00 a.m. The golf shop and restaurants open at 1200hrs, and close at 2000 hrs. Every Saturday, there’s a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m., with a cart fee of $25.
In addition, memberships include all green fees as well as a range of discounts and special offers at the golf course’s various amenities, such as the Pro Shop, restaurants, and bars.
Is There Any Chance I Can Join?
The waiting list for the golf club at Hamilton Farms is currently over 100 people long. However, if you meet the required criteria, you can apply for an “express” membership and get in on the action as soon as possible.
To qualify, you must be 19 years of age or older and a resident of Canada. In addition, you must be able to attend at least two practice sessions per week and one tournament per month. Once you’ve been accepted into the club, you have to commit to playing at least six months out of the year. If you meet these qualifications, you can expect to pay $30,000 to $35,000 per year for the privilege of playing at the prestigious Hamilton Farms Golf Club.
In some instances, the club will consider “lifters” who are moving to Montreal from other cities and want to give golf a go. However, these are usually offered to existing members who need a golf club in their neighbourhood. The only way to get on the waiting list is by applying through word of mouth or through a golf club in another province. Don’t expect to play in the Pro Shop without belonging to the club first.
If you’re thinking about joining or buying a golf club membership in Montreal, keep in mind that at the time of writing, there are several other reputable golf clubs nearby that are much cheaper.
