The Lady Professional Golfers’ Association’s LPGA Tour (formerly known as the Ladies Professional Golf Association), which is one of the most prestigious professional golf tours in the world, regularly stops at The Patriot. During the week of the Chicago Masters, the tournament director for that week’s event, Ericsson Wicklow, said he gets at least one enquiry a day from people asking if they can play at The Patriot. (The tournament director has the unenviable job of curating a field of some of the best female golfers in the world and making the schedules for the tour’s various events so that everyone can participate.) The LPGA Tour has played at The Patriot since it opened in 1915, but hasn’t officially visited the club since 1987. However, the LPGA will be holding another tournament, the Byron Nelson Championship, at the course the week of April 8th – 12th, 2018. This will be the 34th career tournament for the legendary golfer Nelson, who was one of the four founders of the LPGA Tour. (The other three founders are Louise Suggs, Marjorie Merriweather Post, and Babe Zaharias. The first Nelson Lady Golf Classic, which was officially sanctioned by the LPGA Tour, was held in 1914. It was originally called the Chicago Golf Classic.)
