I think that the British are pretty well-known for being thrifty, and this reputation was reinforced when I heard that Blackburne Golf Club only charges £75 for its memberships. So, if you want to play some golf at a bargain, this is the right place for you. Its notable features include a magnificent new clubhouse, designed by noted architect George Duncan, and a wonderful and well-maintained 18-hole course. The greens are fantastic, and are maintained at perfect levels of roughness. If you can’t decide whether to join a traditional country club or a trendy social club, then consider joining Blackburne Golf Club and having a good time.
Fakenham Lakes Golf Club
This is another great course, located in the sleepy town of Fakenham. The course is set within manic the tranquil Fakenham Lakes, and offers a bucolic country setting. It’s perhaps only fair to say that you should probably have played there before if you’re in Norfolk. The greens are impeccable, and you get a real sense of accomplishment from sinking a hole-in-one. Fakenham Lakes Golf Club was originally established in 1893, and is the oldest golf club in Norfolk. If you’re looking for a scenic course that also offers a bar, restaurant and putting green, then this one’s worth a look.
Royal Lytham
Lytham is another links course, located just outside of Liverpool. It’s got a real pirate vibe going on, which adds to the charm. The Old Town and the Marina make this a popular destination for tourists, and the locals are also very keen golfers. This course is also famous for the famous Shark Fin Soup, which is served in the clubhouse. It might seem like a strange tourist attraction, but this is because the soup is actually quite good. The Royal Lytham Golf Club was founded in 1923 and is one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world. It’s also considered to be one of the most historic courses, as the first Scottish Open Championship was held there in 1922. It’s quite a sight to see the 18th hole, with its spectacular lake and island green. If you’ve never been to Scotland, you must visit this course. It’s a real bucket-list item.
