Discovery Bay Golf Club is a private golf club located in the heart of the Dominican Republic on the northern coast. Established in 1995, the 18-hole championship course designed by Rees Jones features breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. The club also offers a 10-hole executive course which is open to the public. It is a combination of the beautiful 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature course and the 9-hole Tom Weiskopf designed course. To get to the club, you will need a car or take a taxi from Puerto Plata, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. The course is 15 minutes away from the airport. Please note that cell phone coverage is sparse and sometimes non-existent in the island, so make sure you have a network connection before you set off to play. If you’re looking for a place with minimal phone coverage, head to Jazzy Brazil, a brazilian steakhouse 50 meters from the 18th green. It’s a great spot for post-round relaxation.

Golfers’ Paradise
Since its inception, Discovery Bay has established itself as an upscale destination for golfers from around the world. The course is consistently ranked among the top 50 courses in the world. According to the members, the course is a combination of the beauty of the Dominican Republic and the excitement of playing in an international setting. It was originally designed to be a sanctuary for bird watching as well.
The 18th hole of the Jack Nicklaus course is a great example of Rees Jones’s attention to detail. It is a 434-yard par 5 that plays over the Caribbean Sea to a green adorned with guava and mango trees. Hitting a drive into the ocean is certainly a way to go out, but hitting a 5-wood into the green is what the members love to do. It’s a great feeling hitting a pitch into the middle of the fairway on the first hole, knowing there’s nowhere for it to go but straight down.
A Beautiful Course
Even though it is an 18-hole course, the original 14-hole Jack Nicklaus course is only 6.8 kilometers long. But that is enough to make it one of the most memorable golf courses you will ever play. The entire 18-hole track is lined with tropical foliage and large, ancient oak trees that provide excellent cover for bird watching as well as a picturesque setting for a round of golf.
According to the members, the course’s beauty lies in its simplicity and uncluttered nature. Jones drew inspiration from the area’s tropical climate and the lush landscape to create a course that features wide open spaces, thick pine trees and natural rock outcroppings. In fact, the only structures on the course are a pair of stunning 10-arch bridges that span the scenic Lago Enriquillo.
An Opportunity To Travel
If you are a fan of golf and the Caribbean Sea, then Discovery Bay is the place to be. A round of golf in the Dominican Republic is something that not even the most avid golfer would miss. The lush green scenery, warm sunshine and crystal clear waters are bound to melt away the snow from your hometown. If you’re looking for a new location to travel to, then the Dominican Republic is a place to consider.
Discovery Bay also offers an opportunity to explore the unique cultural side of the island, as well as its rich history. The region was the site of the first golf course in the nation, which was originally built in the 1920s. It was originally called the Blue Train after the train that bore the resemblance to the Caribbean waters. The name was later changed to the present-day Discovery Bay.
It is a place rich in adventure and breathtaking beauty. It is no wonder that so many golfers have made this gem their second home. If you are looking for an environmentally conscious spot to play, then this region is for you. The entire course is maintained by organic methods and toxins such as pesticides and oil products are avoided.
Tourists can utilize a combination of bus and taxi services to reach the course. There is also the option of renting a car and driving one of the many luxurious neighborhoods that surround the region.
