Sharing is Caring

So you have finally decided to buy that luxury item you always wanted but didn’t have the money for – a golf club lamp. You were not the only one who thought of this amazing idea. There are many people out there who want to improve their game and take it easy on the green. Hence the boom in the popularity of this amazing item.

What type of golf club lamp are you planning on getting? Are you going for a classic look with Tiffany’s, Harrys, and Cartsons? Or are you into something more modern and stylish such as an Edgars or Donaldsons?

Whatever your tastes are, you’re bound to find something that will please you. Below you’ll find a quick guide on how to make a golf club lamp. Feel free to dig in and have fun!

The Materials You’ll Need

To start with, you’ll need a metal golf club holder which you can find for around $20-30, some rope (for hanging the lamp), a drill or a saw with a jigsaw to cut the rope, and a lamp shade in the shape of a golf ball (you can find these for around $10).

The advantage of cutting the rope yourself is that you can make a perfect radius at the end. This will help give the appearance of a real golf ball when the lamp is turned on.

Step 1: Measure And Mark

Before you start cutting, take the time to measure the height and width of your wall. You’ll need these measurements so you can cut the right size hole in the center of the wall. It is also a good idea to use the tape measure to mark the spot directly on the wall where you’ll drill the hole. This is going to be your starting point when cutting the wall, so make sure that you leave enough room above and below the spot where you mark.

Marking and measuring are important so you can ensure that the radius is even and that the hole is positioned exactly where you want it to be. Once you drill the hole, you can test it by fitting a pencil through the hole and seeing how it stands in relation to the tape measure you used to mark the spot. If the mark you made is even with the center of the hole, you’ll know that everything is positioned correctly

Step 2: Cut The Wood

Take your time and use your saw slowly and carefully. The last thing you want to do is make a mess due to an oversharp or dull blade. Once you have your measurements, you can cut a piece of wood that will fit perfectly into your wall. You can choose from hardwoods like maple or mahogany, or softwoods like pine or fir.

Make sure that the wood you choose is strong enough to hold up the weight of a golf lamp. When you’re done cutting, sand the edges to smooth them and make the piece clean. You should now have a perfectly circular wall aperture ready for the lamp.

Step 3: Install The Hanger

This step is crucial. You need to find a spot on the wall where you can easily hang the lamp. In most cases, this is going to be a non-floor surface like a wall or a piece of furniture. Hanging a lamp from the ceiling can be dangerous and cause serious damage to the lamp and the interior of your home. You should also make sure that the spot you choose is high enough above the ground so when the sun shines directly on it, it does not cause a glare on the furniture or walls below.

Step 4: Finish Off

Depending on which type of atmosphere you wish to create with your lamp, you may need to paint, varnish, or stain it. You can always choose a classic look by applying a clear coat of paint over the entire lamp. If you wish to go for a more modern look, you can use a semi transparent stain or paint to give it a wood grain look. Once you’ve decided on the final appearance you want for your lamp, you can apply your finishing touches with a cloth or rags and some paint or stain cleaners. Wipe away any excess moisture before stepping back to admire your handiwork!
