Have you ever thought about having one of those classic childhood nights with your friends and family when the baby is finally out of nappies?
What if I told you there was a way to bring a little piece of that magic back?
Would you believe me if I said that you could make golf club diaper cake, a dessert that will remind you of those carefree summer days, with your kids?
It’s true. All you need is a pair of good old-fashioned wooden golf clubs, a little creme brulee, and a few chocolate fingers. Believe it or not, this is a real thing that people actually eat. It’s called a diaper cake because, well, that’s basically what it is. It’s a dessert that babies can’t seem to grow out of, and it’s a must-have for all coffee lovers. Especially since you’ll get to sip on a steaming cup of joe while you’re waiting for your dessert to bake. So let’s get started.

Get The Equipment
Of course, you need the proper equipment to make this cake, so go out and get yourself a good set of ovenware and baking dishes. You’ll also need a pair of old-fashioned wooden golf clubs, preferably with rounded ends and smooth backs. Also, make sure to get some old-fashioned cream candies, chocolate fingers, and chocolate bars. The best way to describe these last three items is that they are all shaped the same and come in a classic brown wrapper. You’ll be using them to make the creme brulee, so make sure you get those items while they are still in stock at the grocery store. Last but not least, get yourself a nice mug to drink your steaming hot coffee from while you’re waiting for your dessert to bake. You can also use a small pot to make a pot of tea if you’d like. It’s up to you.
The Ingredients
Now that you have all your equipment, it’s time to get the ingredients. You’ll need unsalted butter, sugar, and cocoa powder for the creme brulee, plus some milk, eggs, and vanilla extract for the cake itself. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered on this one. Here are the exact ingredients you’ll need to make six servings of diaper cake.
One Cup Of Sugar
Add one cup of sugar to your mixing bowl and mix well. Then add one cup of unsalted butter and mix well again. Your butter and sugar are now ready to use.
Three Cups Of Cocoa Powder
Next, add three cups of your favorite chocolate powder and mix well. Make sure you use a medium-sized bowl to do this, as any larger bowl and you might end up with slightly different results. The cocoa powder should be well-blended and of a consistent color throughout. You can add more or less powder depending on your taste. I would recommend starting out with three cups and then adding more or less as needed. The consistency should be thick but still pourable.
One Cup Of Milk
To make the creme brulee, you will need one cup of milk. You can use any sort of milk you’d like, but it needs to be dairy-free. Non-dairy milks such as soy milk may also work, but try a cup of whole milk first. The best milk for this recipe is unsweetened coconut milk or almond milk. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you dairy-eaters. You can use three to four tablespoons of full-fat coconut milk or almond milk for your creme brulee. Stir well to combine.
One Cup Of Eggs
To make the cake, you will need one cup of eggs. Again, this can be any sort of egg you’d like. However, the best egg for this recipe is the yolk-free variety. The white will add a little bit more protein and a lot more flavor. You can do this one of two ways: either add the eggs to your mixing bowl and whisk them together or separate the yolks from the whites and add the yolks to the mixing bowl.
One Teaspoon Of Vanilla Extract
Finally, add one teaspoon of your favorite vanilla extract and mix well. You may add up to a tablespoon depending on your taste buds. A good rule of thumb is to add a little bit at a time and mix well after each addition. You can use either a regular or an electric hand mixer to blend your ingredients together. If you use the hand mixer, be sure to use the paddle attachment and mix your ingredients on medium speed for about 10 minutes. You don’t want to mix on high speed or else the egg will cook rather than break down during mixing.
The Instructions
Once you have your ingredients prepped, it’s time to put it all together. First, you’ll want to grease and flour the insides of your mixing bowl and pan. Then, take your butter, sugar, and cocoa powder mixture and put it in your mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer on medium speed, mix for about 10 minutes, or until the ingredients are well-blended and of a consistent color. Stop mixing once you have a smooth, well-combined texture. In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix for about 5 minutes on medium speed. This will help ensure that your creme brulee is well-blended and of a consistent color. Now take your milk, eggs, and vanilla extract mixture and add it to your bowl. Using a hand mixer on medium speed, stir for about 10 minutes, or until the mixture is well-blended and of a consistent color. You can add more or less milk, eggs, and vanilla extract as needed depending on your taste buds. Next, add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients and, using a hand mixer on low speed, stir for about 10 minutes, or until the mixture is of a uniform color. You can add more or less cocoa powder, depending on your taste. Lastly, pour your mixture into greased and floured ramekins or small ovenproof dishes and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the cakes start to turn golden brown and feel set on the inside. Remove from the oven and let sit for at least 10 minutes before serving. This will ensure that the cakes come out of the oven perfectly moist and serve at room temperature. Enjoy the sweet sounds of crickets and the cozy glow of a fireplace as you savor each bite of this classic American dessert.
